DCA introduces Teleradiology
New Delhi
Imagine a radiologist sitting in Delhi reporting on the CAT scan that was performed minutes earlier in the ER (emergency room) of a hospital in Bihar. Sounds like science fiction? Not any more. At least that is what the Diwan Chand Satya Pal Aggarwal Imaging Research Center; a DCA group company is promising as it introduces Teleradiology in India taking diagnostic research to newer heights.
Teleradiology is a means of electronically transmitting radiographic patient images and consultative text from one location to another. In medical sciences, this technology involves creating and transmitting medical images, such as X-rays, CT scans and MRI scans electronically in the form of a digital signal from one location to another. Teleradiology is the process of sending radiologic images from one point to another through digital, computer-assisted transmission, typically over standard telephone lines, wide area network (WAN), or over a local area network (LAN). An expert at a distant site receives the images, evaluates them, diagnosis them, and suggests additional care as needed.
“Within India today, there is a problem of access to medical services as doctors prefer to live in cities and rural areas have no specialized or quality medical care. Inaccessibility should not be a reason to deny medical attention and therefore this is our initiative to link remote areas and provide better health services,” said Dr. Ajay Aggarwal, Director, Diwan Chand Integral Health Services Pvt Ltd., a DCA group company.
He further adds, “We provide teleradiology-based services such as diagnostic interpretation of all emergently and non-emergently performed non-invasive imaging studies, including computed tomography, MRI, X ray, nuclear medicine studies and conventional plain films (digital format).”
Teleradiology is the way of the future. It increases the reach of the physician who can utilize his skills to the maximum number of patients rather than being confined by geography. The importance of teleradiology is that patients can be effectively diagnosed and treated at any time of the day or night, with a diagnosis provided within minutes. The gratifying thing in this work is the immediacy of it. Also one doctor can cover multiple hospitals simultaneously making it a more efficient process.
“Teleradiology is already impinging on everyday practice, but rapid expansion, driven by an ongoing desire for increasing cost effectiveness, will be seen in the near future. It is no longer a fairytale dream but a useful tool to be used for greater benefit of patients,” emphasizes Dr. Aggarwal
