PET scanning can help patients beat CANCER

Center – The first private user of PET.CT in the whole of
Northern India
Adding one more success to its rich legacy of
being leaders in using the latest technologies in the field of
diagnostics, Diwan Chand Satyapal Aggarwal Imaging Research
Centre, announced the launch of the first ever PET.CT scanner in
Northern India in the private sector set-up.
The announcement came after successfully
completing 6 months of installation of the PET.CT; Dr
Ajay Aggarwal, claims, “the results have been phenomenal and in
many cases occult malignancies were found which immensely
benefited the patients.”
Dr Ajay
Aggarwal, Senior Consultant Radiologist, Diwan Chand Satyapal
Aggarwal Imaging Research Centre, adds, “The
results obtained from the PET.CT investigation, enables
physicians to evade missed opportunities in treating patients
whose cancer is still at an early stage and whose lives could be
prolonged for five or more years with the appropriate treatment.
The technology also helps experts to avoid the opposite mistake:
unnecessarily operating on patients whose cancer is too advanced
for surgery. Thus the use of PET.CT enables doctors’ to stage
cancer and thereon provide correct and cost effective
treatment”.
Connoted as one
of the deadliest diseases of today, Cancer is the fourth biggest
killer disease in India. A critical issue needing urgent
respite during early investigations is the need for accurately
determining its stage -- how far the disease has progressed in a
patient. This is crucial in determining the most appropriate
treatment and needs a clear cut process of diagnosis. While till
date, the most commonly used tool for staging cancers was CT
scan or MRI, often followed by a biopsy. Major progresses over
the years finds that an emerging technology known as PET-CT
is far reaching out to be more accurate than CT or MRI in
indicating whether a patient's cancer has spread outside the
diseased area or not?
Attributed with a whole lot of complementing
qualities, the PET.CT can offer a differentiation between benign
and malignant tumor unlike a MRI or CT. Further the Biograph
PET.CT. with High Rez Platform, reveals optimum resolution and
better image definition in an unparalleled scanning time of just
15 minutes. Moreover, as each study consists of a whole body
PET Scan & CT Scan, coupled with a high class reporting by a
highly qualified and experienced Radiologist & Nuclear Medicine
Physician in tandem. Their diagnosis paves way for successful
management and treatment of the disease.
